COURT SENTENCES MAN TO 14 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING A VIRGIN

“In the light of all my findings, the prosecution has proven their case beyond reasonable doubt. I find you Kenechukwu Okonkwo guilty of rape contrary to Section 258(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011

“I hereby sentence you to 14 years imprisonment commence from today March 24, 2017.” Before the sentencing, counsel to Okonkwo, Mr Worer Obuagbaka in his allocutus, asked court to temper justice with mercy, arguing that Okonkwo was a first time offender and was repentant.

TWO WOMEN ATTEMPT SUICIDE IN LAGOS LAGOON

The Lagos State Police Command on Friday rescued a woman, Taiwo Momoh, as she attempted to jump into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge, while fishermen resued another, Mrs. Abigail Ogunyinka, the Ebute-Ero end of the Lagos lagoon.

Ogunyinka, a food vendor, was said to have jumped already but was rescued by nearby fishermen.

Both women said they are heavily indebted. Ogunyinka said she owed a microfinance bank N150,000

This is coming less than one week after a medical doctor, Allwell Orji, jumped from the same bridge into the lagoon in an apparent suicide.

The same day Orji took his own life in a case that has attracted attention nationwide, another woman was rescued in Mazamaza area of Lagos after she jumped inside the lagoon.

OSINBAJO GETS IGBO TITLE ‘ENYIOHA NDIGBO 1’

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has arrived Umuahia, in  Abia State, for a one day State visit. He is to commission the Abia Investment House built by the governor of the state, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu administration, and pays homage to the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers at Okpara Auditorium.

It is reported that the vice president will be conferred a chieftaincy tile by the Abia monarchs. Every year, Pakistani Day is celebrated on March 23 throughout the country to commemorate the adoption of the Pakistan Resolution by the All India Muslim League on March 23, 1940 at Lahore’s Minto Park which demanded a separate homeland for Muslims in South Asia.

The Pakistan Resolution which was originally known as Lahore Resolution-passed on March 23, 1940, holds an immense historic importance in the history of Pakistan movement.
The Founder of Pakistan Mohammad Ali Jinnah presiding the session where the resolution was presented. The resolution mainly stated that a Muslim state be made comprising of the areas where Muslim populace exists in majority.

OMONI OBOLI CANCELS 'OKAFOR'S LAW' MOVIE PREMIERE AFTER SERVED A COURT INJUNCTION FOR STEALING STORY

Sometime in September 2016, Omoni Oboli was accused of copyright infringement for the Okafor's Law title she gave her movie, by a Canada based writer, Jude Idada. The Nollywood actress Omoni Oboli was also accused of stealing his story and idea for her new movie "Okafor's Law."

Idada revealed this in an exclusive interview with TNS. He also stated that Oboli  copied his idea for her directorial debut, "Being Mrs Elliott."

Mother of Stephanie Otobo, the alleged girlfriend of Apostle Johnson Suleman of the Omega Fire Ministries, has said she has not seen her daughter in the last three years, noting that her daughter ”is not normal.”

This is coming after Ms. Otobo, a Canadian-based Nigerian singer accused the fiery preacher of impregnating and abandoning her after he promised to marry her. 

Following her initial allegation against the preacher, the singer had continued to release more intimidating details about her alleged romance with Suleman. 

But her mother, popularly called Mama Tope has opened a fresh controversy on the much publicized saga.

22-YEAR-OLD MAN FORCED HIS GIRLFRIEND TO DRINK ACID

A 22-year-old Indian man, Ravi Kumar, has been arrested after he reportedly forced his 19-year-old girlfriend to drink acid.

Kumar made the woman, identified only as Muskan drink acid over claims he was angry with her for allegedly cheating on him.

According to Hindustan Times, the victim has been hospitalized with a burnt throat and face.

She received around 20 per cent burns following the attack and is currently undergoing treatment in the emergency ward of AIIMS.

NYSC: ANOTHER CORPS MEMBER SLUMPS, DIES IN AKWA IBOM

Another corps member in Akwa Ibom state, simply identified as Abraham died on Thursday.

He was said to have slumped during a football match with some of his colleagues at Abak zone, Uyo.

The information was shared by Akwa Ibom NYSC media group while it regretted the death of the vibrant corps member.

According to Akwa Ibom NYSC media, “Akwaibom state lost a Corps member from Abak Zone yesterday; he collapsed 10 minutes into a football match.

Government agents have caught popular actor, John Dumelo, with two state vehicles. One of the vehicles is a Toyota Land Cruiser V8, according to a report by the Daily Guide. .

NIGERIAN MAN WELCOMES BABY GIRL AFTER PENIS TRANSPLANT IN EGYPT

A Nigerian man, Muhammad Sirajo Musa, who had a penis transplant in Egypt, has welcomed a new baby girl with his artificial manhood.

Musa, who hails from Zaria in Kaduna State, made news headline during the Eid-el-Fitr in 2009 after he was involved in an accident on his way to the prayer ground.

His manhood was severed in the cause of the fatal accident.

KILLERS OF CYNTHIA OSUKOGU SENTENCE TO DEATH

 A Lagos State High Court sitting in Igbosere has sentenced Ezekiel Eloka and Echezona Nwabufor to death by hanging for the murder of a post-graduate student, Cynthia Osokogu, who they lured from Nassarawa to Lagos before strangulating her to death at a hotel in Festac Town, Lagos, in 2012.

Delivering her judgement, Justice Olabisi Akinlade declared that after carefully analyzing the evidence presented before the court, testimonies of prosecution witnesses, and confessional statements the deceased made to the police, she was left with no doubt that the accused were guilty of killing Ms. Osokogu.

The Operatives of Rapid Response Squad bikers early this morning rescued a man involved in a hit and run accident around Ile Zik inward Old Abeokuta-Agege Expressway.

The unidentified man, who was hit while crossing the road, went into coma before he regained consciousness. The victim had a fractured right arm.

A middle aged public school teacher in Ibadan, Adeyinka Adelakun, on Thursday, narrated how his wife, Kafayat, poured boiling water on his manhood which seriously injured him.

Adelakun had approached an Idi-Ogungun Customary Court at Agodi in Ibadan seeking the dissolution of his three-year-old marriage to his wife on grounds of threat to life and constant fighting.

He also prayed the court to allow him to have in his custody their two-year –old child so that he could effectively take care of the child.

DINO MELAYE FILES N5BN LAWSUIT AGAINST SAHARA REPORTERS

Senator Dino Melaye this morning approached a Federal High Court in Abuja, to file a N5 billion lawsuit against Sahara Reporters over a recent publication alleging he never graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University. The Senate has ordered its committee on Ethics and Priviledges to investigate this allegation. Dino has however denied the claim.

UNN STUDENT SHOT DEAD BY CULTISTS

A sad incident yesterday claimed the life of Emmanuel Joseph aka Big Joe, a third year student of Political Science who is a student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

He was shot dead by suspected cultists at Hilltop, a location notorious for criminal activities in the school. It is believed that his death might be as a result of cult clash, however, an official statement is yet to be released by the school.

DRUG DEALERS CAUGHT SMUGGLING MORE THAN $4M HEROIN IN PIECES OF FURNITURE (PHOTOS)

Authorities arrested three drug dealers accused of smuggling heroin in pieces of household furniture, officials said Tuesday.

Cops grabbed Jorge Pizarro, 41, Nelson DeJesus, 40, and Miguel Angeles, 27, saying they tried to make an end-run around police by secreting more than 6 pounds of heroin in high-quality wooden end tables they transported from Texas and kept in a Bronx storage unit, officials said. he drugs were stashed in compartments in the tables, officials said.

One Olotu Chizoba has been arraigned before Magistrate O. Sule-Amzat sitting at Ogudu Magistrate Court, Lagos State for allegedly assaulting a co-tenant by beating her to a pulp and almost biting off her nipples.

SENATE OKAYS ADDITIONAL $500M EUROBOND

The Senate has approved the request of the Presidency to raise additional $500 million Eurobond from the international capital market for the funding of the 2016 budget.

The Senate arrived at this decision on Wednesday after a thorough debate on the loan request.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu who presided over the plenary commended lawmakers for putting aside their political differences to approve the request.

FAYOSE GIVE REASONS WHY HE CAN'T JOIN APC

Ekiti State governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has said he cannot join the All Progressives Congress (APC), even if he has to leave his current party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fayose, who spoke at a gathering in Ado-Ekiti, said the practice of use and dump adopted by the leadership of the APC would not allow him to contemplate defecting to the party.

SENATE DECLARES CUSTOMS BOSS UNFIT, CALLS FOR HIS RESIGNATION

Following his refusal to appear before the senate, the Upper Legislative Chambers, on Wednesday demanded that the Comptroller General of Nigerian Customs Services, NCS, Col. Hameed Ali(rtd) must resign his appointment, stressing that he was unfit for his position.

Recall that the Senate had last Thursday ordered Ali to appear before it today after Senators worked out on him during plenary over his refusal to appear before them in uniform last week.

BOMB BLASTS ROCK NIGERIA'S MAIDUGURI

At least three people have been killed and 18 others wounded in multiple suicide blasts at a refugee camp on the outskirts of the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, security sources told Al Jazeera.

Police said five male suicide bombers detonated explosives at the camp which is located at the Muna Garage area of the city in the early hours of Wednesday.

Those wounded were taken to hospital to receive treatment.

MOTHER OF DROWNED DOCTOR REJECTS CORPSE, SAYS RECOVERED CORPSE NOT MY SON

The mother of the medical doctor who jumped into the Lagos Lagoon on Sunday has denied that the body recovered today by marine policemen in the Lagoon was that of her son.

Emergency officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) disclosed that five family members invited to inspect the body at the Marine Police Unit said it was that of another person.

SON OF NASARAWA STATE GOVERNOR, UMAR AL-MAKURA, ARRESTED FOR KILLING JSS2 STUDENT IN CAR ACCIDENT

One of the sons of Nasarawa state governor, Umar Al-Makura, Khaleed, has been arrested by the state police command for allegedly using his car to kill one Ovye Amos, a JSS2 student of Government Secondary School, Lafia on Sunday March 19th.

According to reports, Amos was out to buy batteries for his torchlight when he was knocked down by a car that was being driven by Khaleed.

Before the attack, Herbret had reportedly been heavily smoking cannabis at their home in Perth, Australia.
