Despite the ruckus that greeted Come Closer, Wizkid’s new musical video over the absence of Drake, the video continues to be a major breakthrough for Nigeria’s Starboy.

In recent times, Come Closer has garnered more views than his old hits, in­cluding Holla at Your Boy, In My Bed and Jaiye Jaiye with over 8.6million views mak­ing the video Wizkid’s fifth most viewed music video.

Come Closer first broke an African record when it got it’s first million views just 24 hours after its release on April 6, and it has remained the ‘fastest growing’ video by the music star.

Perhaps, Nigerians’ dis­appointment with Drake’s absence is not misplaced, as the video would have had some additional significant millions.

JEAN STEIN , AN AUTHOR COMMITS SUICIDE AT THE AGE OF 83

Author, Jean Stein who wrote best-selling oral histories has died in New York City at the age of 83. Authorities say Stein killed herself by jumping from the penthouse floor of a building in upper Manhattan on Sunday and was pronounced dead at the scene. Until her death, Stein was a former editor at the Paris Review.

A spokesperson at Random House, which published her most recent book, the well-received West of Eden: An American Place, issued the shortest of statements in response: ‘Random House is deeply saddened by the death of Jean Stein.’

SEGUN ADENIYI’S BOOK GOOD FOR THRASH BIN – FANI-KAYODE​

Ex-Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has stated that Segun Adeniyi’s latest book titled ‘Against The Run Of Play’ is good for “one thing and one thing alone: the trash bin”.

Fani-Kayode said this in a statement on Tuesday.

Excerpts of the book, which focused on the 2015 general election, have in the past few days generated diverse opinions and controversy.

Reacting, Fani-Kayode said the book “is a collection of jaundiced opinions and subjective submissions made by a collection of self-seeking clowns’.

“It sounds more like a script for a second rate and comic soap opera than a historical account.

“It is nothing more than a cheap and feeble exercise in historical revisionism and the target of the collective effort is President Goodluck Jonathan.

OONI OF IFE REACTS TO FIRE INCIDENT AT THE PALACE OF OBA OF LAGOS

Earlier yesterday, we brought you reports of the fire incident at Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu's palace. We also reported that people are pointing towards the 'snub' incident, that happened between the Oba of Lagos and the Ooni of Ife.

The spokesperson of the Ooni's Palace, Moses Olafare, who described the incident as a sad one, disclosed that the Ooni, Enitan Ogunwusi, is not happy with the fire incident.

Premium Times also reported that Moses went further to disclose, that the only
thing they can do is to sympathize with the Oba's palace.

“We are not happy over the fact that the palace of Lagos king got burnt, we can only sympathise with the palace on the development. 

PRESIDENT BUHARI'S PA WHO JUST WEDDED IS ACTUALLY HIS GRANDSON

It will be recalled that Sabiu Yusuf Tunded, an aide to President Buhari got married over the weekend in Kaduna. The grand wedding was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Speaker of House of Reps. Dogara, Emir of Kano, Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, Ministers and other dignitaries. 

APC Chieftain, Bisi Akande referred to Mr Yusuf as Buhari's grandson while speaking about a personal encounter he had with Buhari in December, recalling the trip he and Bola Tinubu, national leader of the APC, made to London see Buhari.

He said he felt so bad that Buhari could not attend the wedding of his grandson in Kaduna on Saturday.

A FEMALE CORPSE SEEN FLOATING ON RIVER NIGER (PHOTOS)

According to the reports, an unidentified female corpse was seen floating on the River Niger, at Onitsha main market as people gathered to behold it.

As gathered, it rained the previous night and many believed she might have been drowned while others insisted she was murdered and pushed into the river.

 Fahad Ibrahim Danladi yesterday, May 1, visited Khadijah Bashir, at the Murtala Muhammed Teaching Hospital in Kano.

The little girls was raped by her mother's female friend and husband when she was 6 month old. She was severely injured to the extent that she had to undergo surgery which was successful. She is 8month old now and is currently receiving medical attention at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano.

PRESIDENT BUHARI DEATH WILL NOT DIE - OLUMBA

Renowned spiritual leader, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, said yesterday that President Muhammadu Buhari will not die in office as predicted by some people.

Speaking in Calabar, Olumba cautioned those praying and wishing Buhari dead to desist, saying God purposely chose him as president of Nigeria to wage war against corruption.

He said so far, Buhari’s government has succeeded in the battle to retrieve Nigeria’s stolen money; but that he must work towards peace and unity of the country.

Olumba advised that Buhari’s government should seek God’s direction and judiciously apply the recovered funds, declaring that many more funds would be recovered from looters.

TIWA SAVAGE SIGNS ON AS ROTARY CELEBRITY AMBASSADOR FOR POLIO ERADICATION

Nigerian singer/songwriter Tiwa Savage is the newest face to join Rotary’s (www.Rotary.org) ‘This Close’ public awareness campaign for polio eradication. A paralyzing and life altering disease, polio is on the verge of becoming the second human disease ever to be eliminated worldwide after smallpox.

Savage, who has been described by CNN as Nigeria’s biggest pop star, will help Rotary achieve its goal of a polio-free world by raising awareness about the vaccine-preventable disease. Savage administered a vaccine to children in Lagos in late April. Nigeria regularly conducts mass immunization campaigns to vaccinate every child under the age of five in the country.

The singer's participation in this program comes at a critical juncture. Last year, Nigeria experienced a polio outbreak that paralyzed four children after passing nearly two years without a case of the disease. Her involvement in the campaign will raise important awareness that will help ensure the outbreak is stopped.

STADIUM AND STREET TO BE NAMED AFTER ANTHONY JOSHUA IN NIGERIA

Anthony Joshua is set to have a stadium named after him in Nigeria.

The Sagamu International Stadium is set to honour Joshua following his 11th round stoppage of Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley on Saturday night.

Mafe, the majority leader of the State House of Assembly in the Ogun State government in Nigeria, was among those who watched Joshua's win in an open air viewing event.

Joshua's parents hail from the Ogun State region of Nigeria. According to ESPN , Mafe has vowed to rename the stadium after Joshua, while the popular Cinema Street will also bear his name.

OBASANJO, IBB, ABDULSALAMI IN SECRET MEET AT MINNA

Three former Nigerian presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) and Abdulsalami Abubakar on Monday, met in Minna, Niger State.

According to Leadership, the meeting was held at the hilltop home of IBB and lasted for over two hours.

Visitors who usually besiege Babangida’s house were streamlined, with some of them stopped from entering the house ahead of the visit of Obasanjo and Abdulsalami.

Governor of Niger state, Abubakar Bello, received Obasanjo at Minna airport and took him to IBB’s residence.

WORLD’S 'OLDEST MAN' DIES AT THE AGE OF 146 (PHOTOS)

A man who claimed to be 146 years old and outlived all 10 of his siblings, his four wives the last of whom died in 1988, all of his children, has died in Indonesia.

Saparman Sodimejo, also known as Mbah Gotho, had an Indonesian ID card that claimed his date of birth was December 31, 1870.

He passed away in his village in the Sragen district of Central Java, Indonesia and a funeral took place on Monday.

Ghoto was taken to hospital in early April due to deteriorating health but six days later checked himself out and returned home. His grandson Suyanto told the BBC:

Kano State Governor says he is not bowing to blackmailers who said he was not working but sleeping.

‎Governor Abdullahi Ganduje stated this during an interactive session with labour unions as part of May Day celebration at the Government House, Kano.‎

He said that his political opponents could not differentiate between sleeping and pretending.‎

“My opponents always complain that I sleep at public functions but I want them to try and differentiate between the two.

‎”Political blackmail is not an issue to me because I am used to it and will continue to work for the good people of the state,” he said.‎

Faced with court prosecution in serious charges of culpable homicide on the deaths of over 116 people killed by his hurriedly constructed hostel which he built without any planning permission, T.B. Joshua has decided to flee Nigeria.

Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua declared his intention to leave Nigeria and relocate his ministry to the nation of Israel.

Speaking at his church service on Sunday 30th April 2017, Joshua disclosed that he had just returned from the ‘Holy Land’ after holding meetings with three prominent Israeli mayors of Jerusalem, Tiberias and the Jordan Valley.
